A Trip back to "Home"

Tonight my children and I are headed back "home". We will return to a place where our heads once rested; a place where we were lovingly embraced by dear friends; where part of our heart still remains. We will share stories and laughter, coming together once again as family in a community where we spent a large part of our lives.

It is bittersweet going back. Seeing familiar faces and places brings back wonderful memories of joy and friendship. And though as the years go by it seems more natural to come back to our "new" home here in the country, there is always a touch of nostalgia sitting on our shoulders as we pull away from what we once held close.

Enjoy what you have. Enjoy who you have. Make memories, make moments, make magic. Then when the road turns and you chart a new course, your "homes" will be many...and your heart will be full.

It is fun driving down a street that used to be your home, it is a weird and good feeling at the same time.

You hit it on the nose Lori. Home is where your heart is - and with those who share your heart. Beautiful photos of your family....THAT is home. :)

You have an uncanny way of bringing everything figuratively home for your readers.

You are so right. I'm fortunate to have 'homes' scattered throughout Ontario and England. Homesickness takes on a whole new meaning.

It is nice to have multiple homes. I haven't been back to Mississippi since the house sold so I haven't seen it with the new owners. This is the same for my past home in Oklahoma City. With all the wildfires there I started thinking about it again and hope it has survived the years as well.

I hope you all have a great time! I've come to realize that home is really wherever my family is. There are places I miss, but noplace would be home without the family.

These are dear friends of ours from the place we used to call home before our big move. My blood family was nearly two hours away, so friends and community were very important in the establishment of wonderment for our every day lives.

My heart lies in many places. One of them is here.

Lori, this is one of my favorite posts ever. Your last paragraph says it all. Thank you for saying what I've felt all along. I love the way you string words together to tug at readers' hearts! Have a wonderful trip home.
